HE'S famous for singing: "You say it best when you say nothing at all." But it's clear Ronan Keating could do with taking his own lyrics to heart once in a while. For if he had, the former Boyzone star would have avoided the humiliation of being removed from the stage during a posh ball in Marbella on Saturday after drunkenly swearing at organisers. Ronan's night of shame began at a bash for the homeless charity Focus attended by the cream of Irish society.
CALM BEFORE THE STORM: Ronan and Yvonne arrive Our well-placed source tells us: "All these really rich people like racehorse owners, barristers and famous families had flown over for the event. "There were about 350 people in an amphitheatre in the Puente Romono Hotel." After getting completely bladdered at the champagne reception, Ronan really began to unravel at the auction. One flashy guest offered to donate e10,000 if the 26-year-old crooner - who was at the event with his wife Yvonne - got up on stage and sang three songs. Our source continues: "Ronan happily went along with it. But when he got on stage he didn't realise that this wasn't his usual audience."
"That's when the jeering started. Someone immediately shouted out, 'I'll give him e10,000 if he doesn't sing.' Everyone started laughing, but Ronan didn't raise a smile. We then noticed that he looked a bit unsteady on his feet. In fact, he was very drunk. There was no question about it. "He told the audience he wanted them to sing along with him - but there was silence. "This was the elite of Dublin and they're lovely people but most of them just didn't know his music. It was so embarrassing." But things soon went from bad to worse for the hapless Ronan. "There was a grand piano on stage and he appealed for people in the audience who knew how to play it to come up. But no one did," reveals our spy. "He then said he'd sing anyway. He attempted three songs but couldn't remember the words. He was just so drunk. It was a complete fiasco.
"The organisers said to each other, 'We have to get him off'. But he wouldn't leave the stage. That's when the bad language started. "He was swearing away into the microphone at them, talking total rubbish. He was then asked to do the raffle. Luckily, that finally shut him up and got him off the stage. "Ronan then left the party and got on a plane back to Ireland. It was baffling behaviour and so inappropriate." Baffling that he was so rock 'n' roll for once in his life, more like... A spokesman for Ronan said: "Ronan was there to raise a lot of money for charity. It was a great party. He had lots of fun but can't remember too much about it."
Ronan & Keith Still a Feudin'... - 15.07.03 The long standing feud between ex-Boyzoners Ronan Keating and Keith Duffy came to a head last week when the two former friends came head to head at the Veronica Guerin Premiere. Ronan keating and Keith Duffy have been at logger heads recently due to Ronan's refusal to reunite with his Boyzone bandmates for a reunion tour. Things got heated up to boiling point at after the Premiere of the Veronica Guerin movie when the two boyz found themselves in close proximity in Renards nightclub.
According to reports Keith's close pal and hellraiser Colin Farrell had to stop things from getting out of hand between the two.
But that didn't stop the lads' better-halves from getting back together as both their spouses Lisa Duffy and Yvonne Keating danced the night away. Well, we think it's about time Keith and Ronan kissed and made up... What do you think?
Life is a Rollercoaster for Big Brother - 11.07.03 Life is anything but a rollercoaster for the Big Brother Housemates in the UK, it would seem. Day 46 in the Big Brother House and Dubliner Ray is called to the Diary Room. The housemates must now complete a list of daily chores before 11am. In order to assist the housemates in waking up on time, Big Brother gives Ray a choice of songs to be played in the BB house for the following morning. The choices were: S Club 7's 'Don't Stop Moving' or yes...Ronan Keating's 'Life is a Rollercoaster'. Ray chose S Club 7...
Ronan Refuses to Heal Rift with Keith - 10.07.03 DAILY MIRROR The rift between Ronan Keating and Coronation Street star Keith Duffy showed no signs of healing at the Veronica Guerin film premiere. They ignored one another throughout and even spurned several opportunities to talk to each other. Despite attending two exclusive VIP parties, and standing within inches of each other for much of the night, they failed to strike up any conversation. Their feud first erupted two years ago when Keith branded Ronan a traitor for quitting Boyzone. Many attending the bash in Dublin were sure that the pair would bury the hatchet when they came face to face for the first time in nearly a year. But the writing was on the wall by the time they had taken their seats at the premiere, which were just one row apart. The situation became increasingly tense when they turned up at the posh party at Dublin Castle. One onlooker said: "They were standing just inches from each other and they both looked really awkward. Keith was literally standing back to back with Ronan but they went out of their way not to speak to each other." At one stage, Duffy's wife Lisa and Ronan's spouse Yvonne made a big gesture by chatting and dancing at Renard's nightclub. Duffy told the Irish Mirror: "I wouldn't hit the guy if I saw him but that's about as friendly as it gets now." He spent the night drinking with Colin Farrell and Kerry McFadden. Ronan drank Jack Daniels with artist pal Terry Bradley. A showbiz insider added: "Ronan is still hurt by Keith's comments and Keith seems to have a few issues with Ronan too."
Celebs come out for Veronica Guerin... - 09.07.03
Coulter and Company - 08.07.03
Casually dressed in blue jeans and a white
shirt, Ronan appeared on stage as
Phil Coulter's first guest of the show.
Following a brief chat with Mr.
Coulter, Ronan went on to perform his number one
hit "If Tomorrow Never Comes"
and also "This Is Your Song".
Brian Kennedy performed the anthemic "You Raise
Me Up" followed by "Remember
Me".
The third guest of the evening was Michael
Leonard of 'You're A Star' fame,
who performed the song penned by Ronan, Brian
and Calum MacColl, "I Couldn't
Love You More". For the final chorus of the
song, Michael was joined on stage,
much to his surprise, by Ronan and Brian.
To end the show, Ronan brought the audience to
their feet with an energetic
rendition of live-favourite "Brown Eyed Girl",
before being joined on stage by
Brian Kennedy..(who originally performed backing
vocals on this track for Van
Morrisson).
Producers Palomino were so pleased with this
particular show in the series
that they have to decided to broadcast it as the
final show to be aired on RTE
in August.
Ronan will
be back in Dublin this week after a very successful writing trip in the US where
he worked with the Matrix team in LA and Sturken & Rogers in NY. Joining him in
Dublin will be Greg ‘Rollercoaster’ Alexander and Rob ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My
Head’ Davies! VARIOUS ARTISTES - Hope THE
birth of this album is undoubtedly noble. An album from which proceeds will go
to help suffering Iraqi children. |
