The Band

Kieran Kiely
Kieran Kiely, standing beside Steve Jones, is on keyboards, accordian, also
plays tin whistle. Kieran - another Irishman - played with the Pogues, has
done some stuff with Wyclef Jean. You know, a very talented musician
again. Great Guy. Would also be playing a lot of the strings and stuff
through the keyboards, so the beautiful strings you hear on "Once Upon a
Lifetime" and all those songs, they all come from Kieran.
Liam Bradley
To his right, we have Liam Bradley on the drums. Liam I know very well,
another Irishman. Solid as a rock, a real genuine person, you know, a good
person. If I could put anyone on "Who wants to be a Millionaire, it would
be Liam Bradley. I've never met anyone who knows so much about everything.
It's unbelievable.
Steve Lones
Right behind him is Steve Jones - Jonesy - who likes watching snooker, we
found out on this tour, which we can't figure out really! Can speak
Japanese fluently. He's about 6 foot odd, he's huge. You can't miss him!
And he's a great guy, solid as a rock, comes from Ireland.
Calum MacColl
They're the best band I've ever worked with. They're an amazing band.
They're real, real musicians - they're fantastic. It's a pleasure to work
with them. Calum comes from the McColl family - A very famous musical
family. He's my musical director and a brilliant musician who plays guitar
in the band. His father wrote "The first time ever I saw your face", which
is one of the most beautiful love songs ever. Brother to Kirsty McColl,
Lord rest her, who died last year. It was great to find him. I'd met him
many, many times working with different bands on the circuit, we got to know
each other and became good friends. I admired his work, and I wanted him
to come on tour with me. It's great to have him on board.
Janet and Jo
And finally the two girls at the front, Janet and Jo, who worked with George
Michael. They're inseparable the two of them. That's why I say "Janet and
Jo", because the two of them are like Ming and Ping, you know. Two
fantastic vocalists, you know, really an inspiration to work with them.
When you stand back and listen to them sing, the power in their voices. You
know, they're great people, a good laugh. You know, they know what's going
on. They're clued in, good vibey people, you know, great to be around. And
again, like I said, great musicians
Paul Turner
Then to his right is Paul Turner. Paul I've known for years, he played with
Boyzone years ago. He's on base. Solid guy, mad as a brush. Game for a
laugh. Always on for a laugh! You can always hear him laughing before you
see him - that's Paul Turner, a good geezer.
James McNally
James McNally, who plays keyboards, tin whistle, bodhran and accordian.
James is part of the Afro-celts, a very famous musical group. He's wild,
James is the real wildman of the band! Quirky, you know, mad as a brush!
But again, real top bloke, fantastic musician. To watch any of these guys
play is unbelievable you know. You work with some people and they have to
hit a transpose button to make the key change, but these guys, just by
hitting a different set of notes, it's amazing, to work with these people,
it's a dream.
